E7: The Chief Diversity Officer Window Dressing

After twelve months of socially responsible Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and Diversity Director hiring, why are CDOs walking out the door to start their own consulting company or moving on to new opportunities outside of DEI? If I didn't know better, you'd think CDOs are saying to organizations, take your job and shove it – I will not participate in your written sanitized script designed to pretend to care about advancing diversity and inclusion. 

They are saying to companies, why should we keep doing the thankless clean-up DEI jobs if you don't want to make substantive changes in your diversity and inclusion policies?
